We just recently worked at Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, NY. I can honestly say that there aren’t many places like it in anywhere that I have been. An 1869 Victorian Castle near the Catskills surrounded by thousands of acres of unspoiled natural beauty, the resort is still owned and operated by the descendants of the founder, Albert Smiley. We had a wonderful group of 28 people spanning 4 generations, from ages 2 to 92. They were celebrating the 50th birthday party of someone special, and wanted us to capture the day for them. Mohonk keeps on giving, as it has multiple locations to work in, including a private lake with paddleboats, a beach, colorful gardens, an ice skating Pavilion, and unique architecture, both Victorian and Classic. We took full advantage of as many locations as possible, including group plunges into the lake, group photos on a balcony 5 stories high, and individual portraits in the lush gardens. After a lobster dinner at the Granary at picnic tables that overlook the lake, we ended the evening with an Open Camp Bonfire.
